On paper, we couldn’t be more different. Janine comes from a high-pressure corporate background spanning finance, strategy, ESG and investor relations across multiple countries and industries. Jacobus spent much of his adult life farming in remote locations - an adrenaline-seeker with a deep respect for land, nature and hands-on problem-solving.

In reality, those contrasts are our strength.

Together, we blend structure with creativity, strategy with action, and big-picture thinking with practical execution. What unites us is a shared belief that work should have meaning, that people thrive when given opportunity, and that the planet urgently needs a different relationship with consumption.

After more than a decade living abroad, we returned to South Africa in 2022 with a growing sense that something needed to change.

Corporate success brought opportunity, travel and experience — but also exhaustion, excess and a quiet disconnect from purpose. A six-month sabbatical became a turning point: a period of slowing down, decluttering (physically and mentally), reassessing priorities, and asking harder questions about what really matters.

Two realisations stood out:

1. Stuff owns us far more than we realise
2. Charity alone isn’t sustainable - opportunity is

When SNUFFELS crossed our path in 2025, it felt less like a business acquisition and more like an answer. A platform where we could apply everything we had learnt — about people, systems, sustainability and community  - in a way that felt tangible and honest.

On Spring Day 2025, we became the proud new custodians of SNUFFELS Hermanus.

Privileged to be the 4th generation of custodians of this >30-year-old business - literally part of Hermanus’ furniture!

We are grateful to those who came before us in building SNUFFELS into the amazing business it is today, and incredibly excited to step-change it into a movement for positive change in our town.
