A beautiful vintage Japanese eggshell porcelain tea set, finely decorated with traditional Geisha figures in garden landscapes and finished in rich iron-red and gilt accents. This highly decorative set comprises two lidded serving pots, six teacups with matching saucers and side plates, together with a matching serving bowl, creating an impressive 21-piece display.
The translucent eggshell porcelain is exceptionally delicate and showcases the craftsmanship associated with Japanese export wares of the early to mid-20th century. Included with the set is an old handwritten provenance note stating that the tea set was presented as a wedding gift in Durban in 1900 and subsequently passed through the Du Toit and Walton families. While the provenance note accompanies the set, the exact production date has not been independently verified.
A striking collector’s piece and conversation starter, ideal for display in a cabinet, traditional dining room, or as part of a collection of Japanese decorative ceramics.
